Studies have found a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sentientmedia.org\/increase-in-veganism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">300% increase in vegans in the U.S.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> between 2004 and 2019 (amounting to nearly 10 million people) and there has also been a decrease in those who consider themselves \u201cmeat eaters\u201d from 85% in 2019 to 71% in 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These \u201cnon-meat eaters\u201d identify their dietary preferences in many ways\u2014vegan, vegetarian, plant-based, etc. However, with this rise in popularity, more people have started using the terms \u201cvegan\u201d and \u201cplant-based\u201d interchangeably, when they are actually quite different.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>What Does It Mean to Follow a Vegan Diet?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The term \u201cvegan\u201d describes individuals who have made the lifestyle choice to avoid using, consuming, and exploiting animal products as much as possible.
